Fixed PVC windows are glazed panels that do not open. Their purpose is to provide natural light and views while maintaining the maximum possible thermal and acoustic insulation. They are the most affordable and best-insulating type, as they have no hardware or opening seals where air can enter.

A fixed window is essentially a PVC frame with a permanently sealed glazing unit. With no moving parts, it completely eliminates air and water infiltration, achieving the best insulation values possible.

They are commonly used as a complement to casement or sliding windows: for example, a large 2-metre fixed pane flanked by two casement sashes. They are also popular for high-level glazing and facades where ventilation is not needed but natural light is.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a fixed PVC window cost?

A standard fixed PVC window (100x120cm) costs between €150 and €350 installed in Girona. It is the most affordable window type because it has no hardware or opening mechanisms.

Can I combine a fixed window with a casement one?

Yes, it is the most common combination. A central or side fixed pane complemented with casement or tilt-and-turn sashes for ventilation. This allows large glazed surfaces at a reasonable cost.

Do fixed windows insulate better than casement?

Yes. With no opening seals or hardware, a fixed window has zero air infiltration. Its U-value can be 0.1-0.2 W/m²K better than an equivalent casement window.

Can safety glass be fitted in a fixed window?

Yes, both toughened and laminated safety glass. It is especially recommended for large fixed windows or those at low height. Laminated glass also improves acoustic insulation.
